General guidance from BUTCH’S Plumbing & Heating. Your appliance instructions and the findings from an individual assessment take priority.
A service checks the appliance, not just whether it turns on
A boiler service is planned maintenance. The exact procedure depends on the appliance and the manufacturer’s instructions. It is different from a breakdown appointment, which investigates a reported fault.
What your engineer checks
Our servicing scope includes a visual inspection, appliance and safety checks, combustion testing where applicable, and cleaning of serviceable components as required. We explain the findings and any recommended next steps. Work needed beyond the agreed service is discussed before it goes ahead.
How to prepare
Keep the boiler and its controls accessible, make sure someone can provide access, and have any service history or warranty information available. Tell us about unusual noises, pressure loss, error codes or unreliable hot water when booking. A known fault may need a diagnostic appointment as well as servicing.
How long should you allow?
We normally plan around 45 minutes for a straightforward boiler service. Access, appliance condition and the manufacturer’s procedure can change that. Your booking window is an arrival window, rather than the length of the visit.
One-off servicing or monthly care?
A one-off appointment suits customers who prefer to book as needed. Our Service Plan spreads servicing costs over monthly payments; Homecare combines annual servicing with eligible breakdown cover. Read the separate terms and exclusions before choosing. An existing fault is not automatically covered by joining a plan.
